Advantage flies with new intranet.
How we developed an new intranet for the Advantage travel consortium to increase communication and sales opportunities among 800 members.

Leading travel consortium implements new intranet, developed by Monochrome and powered by Shado, to drive business growth.
|
Advantage, the leading
consortium for independent travel agents, has implemented a new
intranet www.advantagemembers.com to improve communication with its 800
member companies and drive sales opportunities. The new intranet has
been has been enabled by Web design and development agency, Monochrome,
and enterprise content management (ECM) software, Straker Shado.
Advantage, which has been in operation for over 25 years and has a
turnover in excess of £2 billion a year, sought to provide a new
intranet that would provide members with online booking tools for both
traditional packaged holidays, and their own in-house product that is
dynamically packaged by combining flights, hotels, transfers and
insurance, online. The intranet is now the main communication platform
that provides personalised, up-to-the-minute news and information to
over 3,000 retail staff.
Bill Taylor, Advantage’s Web Development Manager, said: “Since becoming
a commercial enterprise in May this year, all of our members have
become shareholders. It was therefore essential to improve
communication with them, and provide them with selling tools online to
help them compete in a crowded market.”
Monochrome and Straker emerged as the ‘dream team’ for the development
of the new intranet. “By combining our internal IT skills with
Monochrome’s design and development skills and Straker Shado
technology, we realised we could build anything we wanted,” added
Taylor. “As well as helping us design and develop the intranet from the
ground up using Shado, Monochrome also helped us integrate features
from our existing extranet and write customised applications.”
“The Shado solution is so powerful and flexible that we can create
bespoke own-brand Intranets for our members that can be underpinned
with all of the relevant commercial information and security,” added
Taylor. “This level of personalisation was a key reason for
choosing to work with Straker.”
Dynamic packaging was the next phase of development at Advantage.
“Packaging is what travel agents have been doing for years, pulling
together flights, transfers, hotel, car hire, etc,” said Taylor.
Through dynamic packaging, we’ll be enabling them to do it online. As
the biggest consortium in the UK, we need to be up there with this new
technology and we will be exploring the dynamic packaging capabilities
that Monochrome and Straker can provide.”
He added: “Monochrome has great design, development and project
management skills and travel industry experience through developing a
Rich Internet interface within the Shado environment for hotels and
other leisure companies. Their guys understood the concept of what we
were trying to do, were flexible and easy to work with, and they
delivered the project on time.”
Taylor concluded: “The intranet is a lot slicker, quicker and easier to
use than what we had before, and it’s easier for us to update and
maintain. We’re now planning a member recruitment drive using the
intranet as a prime marketing vehicle to grow our business.”
